Poco a poco, la ruidosa multitud de simpatizantes de la demócrata Kamala Harris, que cantaba y bailaba a la espera de vivir un «momento histórico» en las presidenciales estadounidenses de este martes, empezó a tener dudas. La ansiedad aguó la fiesta a mitad de la noche.

La imagen contrasta con los primeros minutos de la velada festiva que abarrotaba el césped de Howard, la universidad de Washington conocida como la «Harvard negra» donde Harris espera los resultados de los comicios.

A medida que se acercaba el final del día, los partidarios de la vicepresidenta repetían una y otra vez sus esperanzas de ver por primera vez a una mujer afroamericana al frente de Estados Unidos, sin atreverse apenas a contemplar la derrota.

Pero a medida que se van conociendo los resultados, las caras se iban alargando poco a poco y el ambiente ya no era de festivo. Todo el mundo miraba las pantallas gigantes.

Las primeras proyecciones de resultados son favorables al rival de Harris: el expresidente republicano Donald Trump.

La campaña de la vicepresidenta anunció que no hablará en esta noche electoral.

Esto fue demasiado para Charlyn Anderson, que abandonó Howard incluso antes de que llegara su candidata: «Estoy ansiosa, me voy, mis piernas no pueden más», dijo.
